Mission Statement
The mission of the USO is to enhance the quality of life of the U.S. Armed
Forces personnel and their families worldwide and to create a cooperative relationship between U.S.
military communities and involved or supporting civilian communities.
The USO is an essential factor in the preservation of the morale of the nation's servicemen and women.
By supporting our military personnel and their families, we strive to reduce their burden, so that they
may protect the freedoms that all of us enjoy. USO services affect the lives of all Americans by helping
to create a strong military with high morale, as a strong military is one of our best lines of defense.
Congress has chartered the USO as a non-profit charitable corporation. It is not, however, a part of the United States Government, even though it has been endorsed by the President of the United States and the Department of Defense. Each President has been the Honorary Chairman of the USO since its inception.
