More than 216,000 North Carolina residents served in Vietnam, and some 1,600 made the ultimate sacrifice in that war. Now, the USO of North Carolina and Charlotte Motor Speedway, with support from the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters, will honor their service with an incredible Vietnam Veterans Homecoming Celebration on March 31 for the military members and their friends and families.
Vietnam veterans never received the type of homecoming celebration that today's troops receive as they return from service. To honor those who served and the military members who returned from combat, the USO of North Carolina is holding a long, overdue homecoming celebration. Hosted by the USO of North Carolina and Charlotte Motor Speedway, the Vietnam Veterans Homecoming Celebration 2012 is set to be an unforgettable experience featuring live entertainment, displays and demonstrations, military salutes, and much more!
Veteran Service Organizations will be on-site to assist veterans. Please bring your DD Form 214 so they can help, if needed.

Let Freedom Race at NASCAR's only 600-mile event and patriotic salute to the U.S. armed forces at the 52nd running of the Coca-Cola 600. This Memorial Day tradition features a pre-race military "salute to the troops" you'll never forget. More than 700 veterans, sponsors and guests gather annually for the US Airways Freedom Breakfast to celebrate Veterans Day. The event, with guest performers, honors those who have served our country in the Armed Forces. Each year, the Carolinas Freedom Foundation presents its prestigeous Freedom Award to an individual or a group who has distinguished him/herself by serving our country and its citizens selflessly, and with total dedication to further the cause of freedom. Each year, the Carolinas Freedom Foundation sponsors the annual "Salute to Veterans" Parade to coincide with Veterans Day and the Carolinas Freedom Foundations' Freedom Breakfast. The event showcases local middle and high school bands, the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program units, active military units, antique cars and veteran organizations. In 2010 and 2011, Lowes, Charlotte Motor Speedway and the USO of NC served over 400 military and their families a traditional Thanksgiving Feast at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Guests were also invited to experience Carolina Christmas, the track's Christmas drive through light show. |
