History of the Event
In November 2001, a group of law enforcement friends in Raleigh, NC gathered on Veterans' Day to pause for a quiet remembrance of U.S. veterans. Then they played a round of golf in their honor. During the next few years, the gatherings became larger and after a moving rendition of the national anthem at the start of the 2004 tournament, a challenge was issued. The challenge was for the players to not only continue their support but also initiate a fundraiser for next year's event.
A mission was born that day:
In 2005, the Inaugural Law Enforcement Veterans' Day Shootout hosted 124 golfers from the Military, Law Enforcement and business community at Brier Creek Country Club. The tournament raised $25,000.00 for the USO and the American Red Cross. This remarkable success was due to the generosity and sacrifice of so many caring citizens and corporate sponsors.
