President and COO

Judy Pitchford has demonstrated a high record of commitment to the Armed Forces. Having served 20 years in the military, she understands their needs; this understanding has enhanced her ability to carry out the programs and services provided by the USO of North Carolina. She is a person with tremendous talent and capability, and demonstrates uncompromising integrity and fairness. She brings a vital presence and enthusiasm to the position. This outstanding American is an ultimate natural leader and has unwavering empathy in dealing with her people. She has stepped forward to head The USO of North Carolina with dedication and perseverance, and we are very proud to have someone so dedicated to serving those who serve.

Vice President of Operations

Al Steiner, Vice President of Operations, USO of North Carolina

Al Steineris the product of a military family and a career serving in the U.S. Navy. Born at Warner Robbins Air Force Base, Georgia, Al and his family set to traveling the country and overseas in support of his father's career. Graduating early from Southwest High School in San Antonio, Texas in 1976, Al joined the Navy as an Advanced Electronics Program candidate and volunteered for submarine duty as a Missile Technician for the Poseidon and Trident missile systems setting in motion a military career that spanned more than 28 years.

Al assumed the position of the Vice President of Operations for the USO of North Carolina, Inc. in March 2008. As the Vice President, his role includes staff development, community relations, fund raising, marketing, program development and the daily management of the statewide programs and services and three USO centers and their volunteers and staff.

Al is married to the former Judith Hooks of Morehead City, North Carolina. Together they raised three children; Kimberly, Matthew and Austin. The children manage successful careers and families of their own, adding six grandchildren to the Steiner family tree. Al is a proud member of the U.S. Submarine Veterans, Inc., the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
